Abstract:
Over the years, the front of an HPC facility barely changed. New machines arrived on a steady cadence, vector to MPP to GPU to exascale, but science still reached them the same way: a login, a shell, a batch script, and the patience to wait in a queue. That human access model earned its keep. It was built for a person at the keyboard. Why should software that never sleeps wait its turn in a queue? Autonomous agents now write code, launch campaigns, and drive instruments, spawning by the thousand and negotiating for resources by the second. The queue itself is not the enemy. Compute stays scarce, and a thousand agents make fairness, prioritization, and arbitration harder, not optional. What must change is how a user asks: an agent-ready path into the same operations, behind a policy-enforcing control plane, with multi-tenancy built to respect real resource limits. The machines do not change, the way in does.

Abstract:
In supercomputing, the biggest challenges often involve getting people to change their behavior. What happens when people are taken out of the picture, and agents become the predominant users of supercomputers? What decades-long methods, software stacks, and fundamental architectures exist solely for human convenience, and what optimizations are possible in a parallel computing stack that is not user-friendly at all? In this talk, I will explore this idea through a few specific cases where technologies we take for granted in HPC are actually attractive nuisances in an environment used by agents.

AI medical scribes are easing clinician burnout and documentation burden, but recent lawsuits show that privacy, consent, and liability questions remain unresolved. This talk examines those legal risks and proposes reforms to HIPAA, state law, and health care employer policies to address these risks while preserving the technology's benefits.
